Side Quest Unlocked: I Wrote a Horror Novella (and It’s Funding the Game)

Status: LIVE / PRE-ORDER (depending on where you’re reading this).
Directive: turn page flips into dev time.

I’ve been building Doomsday Delivery Service piece by piece, systems first, polish later, chaos always, and I wanted a way to help fund development that didn’t involve selling my soul to the nearest megacorp (yet).

So I did the most reasonable thing possible: I wrote a horror novella.

 The Book: Playtest: Build 6.6.6

Playtest: Build 6.6.6 is a gritty, darkly comedic horror story about a burned-out delivery driver/game tester who accepts a suspiciously high-paying playtest… and immediately realizes the “prototype” knows way too much about him. It starts like a creepy gig. It escalates into a full-on nightmare.

Inspired by that specific flavor of modern dread: gig-economy desperation, corporate secrecy, and tech that’s way too intimate.

What It’s About (Spoiler-Light)

  • Neutron Falls: an Ohio small-town vibe with big “something is wrong here” energy.
  • A mysterious company called TestLab is offering an “exclusive” horror prototype test for real money.
  • A project labeled VYBIUS that moves from “weird” to “what the hell did I sign?” very fast.
  • Missing people, corporate handlers, and the creeping feeling that the playtest never really ends.

Why I’m Posting This on the DDDS Devlog

Because I’m doing something simple and transparent: any money this book makes is going directly toward developing Doomsday Delivery Service. More assets. More polish. More time to build systems and content the right way.

Where the money goes (the boring-but-important part)

  • Marketplace assets/plugins (when they save weeks of work)
  • Contract art & audio (UI sounds, enemy audio, props, etc.)
  • Software costs + production needs
  • Plain old time—the thing every solo dev runs out of

How You Can Help

  1. Grab the book (or preorder it if that’s what’s available right now).
  2. Leave a review; even a short one helps more than you’d think.
  3. Share the post with anyone who likes gritty, weird horror and indie games.

Thanks for following along while I build this nightmare delivery simulator.
If you read Playtest: Build 6.6.6, I hope it sticks with you (in a fun way).
If it sticks with you (in a bad way)… report to HR... That's also just me.
